How many followers do you need to get verified on TikTok?

Short answer: There's no follower number that gets you verified on TikTok, because verification isn't based on a follower count. TikTok grants the blue check to accounts it judges authentic, unique, and notable, usually with press coverage or a public profile. Many large creators aren't verified, and some smaller notable ones are. Check TikTok's current official criteria.

Why there's no magic follower number

TikTok's verified badge exists to confirm an account is who it claims to be, an authenticity marker, not a growth trophy. The generally stated criteria are that an account is authentic (a real person or brand), unique (the one official presence), active, and notable (recognized, often with coverage in trusted news sources). Follower count can correlate with notability, but it isn't the requirement. That's why you'll find million-follower accounts with no badge and far smaller accounts, journalists, public figures, niche experts, who have one.

Because the bar is "notable," verification is mostly downstream of being known off-platform or being unambiguously the real account for a name people search. There's no threshold like "hit 100k and you qualify," and TikTok can grant or decline at its discretion. The exact process and eligibility change over time and vary by region, so treat any specific number quoted online as a guess and check TikTok's own help pages for the current rules.

What actually helps

  • Build genuine notability. Press mentions, a public profile, or clear recognition in your field matter more than raw followers.
  • Keep the account authentic and consistent: real name or brand, complete profile, active posting.
  • Secure your presence. Matching, verified profiles on other platforms and consistent handles make you easier to confirm as the real one.
  • Don't pay anyone promising verification. Third-party "verification services" are scams and can get your account actioned.

Reality check: the badge barely affects your reach. Verification doesn't change how the For You feed distributes your videos, it's about trust and impersonation protection, not growth. Chasing it as a growth strategy aims at the wrong target.
