How do you research what works in your niche?

Short answer: You research your niche by studying the top-performing videos in it: which hooks, formats, and topics keep hitting, and what the comments ask for. Search your niche keywords, sort by what's getting saved and shared, and look for patterns across many creators — not one lucky video. Then test those patterns with your own spin.

Read the field, not one post

Real research means finding the pattern, not a single hit. Search your niche's keywords and hashtags in the app, and study the videos that consistently overperform across different accounts. One creator's viral video might be luck; the same hook structure working for five creators is a pattern you can trust. You're looking for what repeats — recurring hooks, formats, topic angles, video lengths, and the questions that flood the comments.

A simple research pass

  1. Search your main keyword and note the top 15-20 videos. What do the strong ones share?
  2. Read the comments on the winners. 'Do a part 2', 'what about X' — that's your content roadmap, written by the audience.
  3. Follow a handful of creators one step ahead of you and watch what they repeat, not what they did once.
  4. Track your own analytics beside theirs — your top videos are the most relevant research you have.
  5. Log the patterns somewhere: hooks that recur, formats that recur, topics that recur.

Then the part that matters: turn research into a test, not a copy. A pattern is a hypothesis — 'text-hook tutorials do well in my niche' — that you confirm by making your own version and reading the result. Studying tells you where to aim; only posting tells you whether you hit. Don't let research become an excuse to keep watching instead of shipping.

Weight saves and shares over likes. A like is cheap; a save means 'I'll need this later' and a share means 'you have to see this' — those are the signals that predict reach, so research the videos earning them, not just the ones with big like counts.
