What is save rate?

Save rate: Save rate is the percentage of viewers who bookmark your video to watch again later using the save or favorite button. Saves signal lasting usefulness — viewers plan to return — which is why how-to, recipe, and tutorial content with high save rates often keeps getting distributed long after posting.

Why saves matter for reach

A save is a promise of a future view. When viewers bookmark your video, they're telling the platform this content has value beyond the scroll — and platforms are generally understood to treat that as a strong quality signal, particularly for search and long-tail recommendations. Saved videos keep resurfacing: viewers return to them, rewatch them, and often share them later, which is why high-save content tends to age well compared to purely entertaining posts that spike and fade.

How to earn saves

  • Make content people will need again: step-by-step tutorials, recipes, workout plans, templates, checklists, and resource lists.
  • Pack in more detail than one viewing can absorb — density gives viewers a reason to save instead of just watch.
  • Say it out loud. "Save this for when you..." is a legitimate call-to-action when the content genuinely warrants it.
  • Use text overlay to make steps skimmable, because saved videos get re-opened by people hunting for one specific part.

Save rate pairs naturally with evergreen content. If your video answers a question people search year-round, saves plus search traffic can keep it collecting views for months.

Common misconception: saves are a minor vanity metric hidden behind likes. A save costs the viewer more intent than a like, creators widely treat it as one of the strongest per-viewer signals, and TikTok Studio breaks it out in analytics for a reason.
